Boston Design Center to Get 55,000 Square Foot Rooftop Farm

While it may seem as if most of Boston’s rooftops are solely reserved for illegal barbecuing and debauchery in the summer months, one roof and two environmental scientists with deep roots in the food industry are aiming to change all that. This spring will see the unveiling of the city’s very first rooftop farm, Higher Ground, spanning 55,000 square feet atop the Boston Design Center. Co-founder Courtney Hennessey assures us that, depending on how much money the group is able to raise in the next few months, the farm will begin to offer produce – as well as eggs, honey and other essentials – through an on-site farm stand and CSA shares just in time for warmer weather.
